The Lavender Line
We are very pleased to announce a new event for the calendar which will involve the railways Berkshire Thumper unit DEMU 1133.
1133 is currently being restored in the sheds at Isfield which has included countless hours and days of hard work to ensure she is restored to her former glory. Beautifully restored she is one of the finest examples of a Berkshire Thumper unit you will ever see. Nearing the end of her restoration period the Summer Bank holiday weekend will be an opportunity for you to whiteness the hard work and dedication of her restorer in full light as she fires up the sweet sound of an English electric motor.
Over the weekend of Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August 1133 will be sharing an intensive timetable with one of our resident steam engines ‘Yvonne’ who will be providing brake van rides from platform 1 including parallel departures ensuring you get that unique and different view of a Thumper unit departing.
This is also the opportunity to see 1133 taking part in the national ‘Not the last thump’ celebrations where we will be marking 10 years since the last thumper unit was withdrawn from national rail. Many other railways with Thumper units will be taking part across the country so why not come down and enjoy the perfect example of a DEMU thumper unit.
