The Lavender Line
Were only a few days away from our newest steam engine ‘Yvonne’s first steam day at the railway which will include a second train hauled by our resident steam engine ‘Austin 1’
‘Yvonne’ arrived at the railway in mid January and has been undergoing trials on the line over the past few weeks to ensure she is fit and ready to run passenger services. This unique looking Vertical boiler tank 0-4-0 Cockerill engine was originally built in Belgium 1920; she worked many years in the Brussels gas works before being rescued by volunteers in the early 1970’s. After spending a number of years at the Hollycombe railway centre she has now found a new home in the sheds at Isfield.
This is the first of many steaming set for ‘Yvonne’ over the next 9 months including a number of workings with ‘Austin 1’ and the normal diesel services. ‘Yvonne’ has already made a fantastic impression on all the crews at the railway, her quirky ways and great sound lures you into enjoyment as she powers her way out of Isfield station. On Sunday 6th April ‘Yvonne’ will be on passenger duties for the first time at the Lavender line and will be supported by ‘Austin 1’ who will also be in steam.
‘Yvonne’ will be running with the toad brake van from platform 1 as far as the bridge whilst ‘Austin 1’ will be hauling the main service train from platform 2. ‘Yvonne’ will run 2 trips from platform 1 at approximately 1.00pm and 1.30pm which will allow her to stretch her legs on a good run whilst ‘Austin 1’ takes a break. In the afternoon ‘Yvonne’ will be back on brake van ride duties with the hope of a double header of the two engines for the last run!
