Lavender Line One day Summer Steam and Thumper Gala this coming Sunday!

Its now only a few days to go until the Lavender Line’s much anticipated Steam and Thumper Gala kicks off as we prepare to celebrate all things railway with the official launch of our Thumper unit DEMU 1133 which has been part of an 8 year restoration project under the excellent guidance of Chris, our Thumper expert. Sunday 27th July will see a combination of both steam and Thumper as both our resident steam engines 0-6-0ST Kitson Austin 1 and 0-4-0VBT Cockerill Yvonne team up with Thumper 1133 in providing unlimited train rides throughout the day right from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Austin 1 will be on steam passenger duties as she hauls the railways two coach set consisting of the Semi Royal Saloon and the 108 trailer coach. She will be hauling this set from platform 2 whilst 1133 will be carrying out passenger duties from platform 1 with train departing on each hour and the steam service on each half hour.

This Sunday is looking set to be a scorcher of a day with blue skies and wall to wall sunshine on the cards as the summer heat wave continues. Why not make a visit to the Lavender Line on Sunday 27th July for this extra special event, there will be intensive timetables, parallel runs, double headers, Riley’s miniature railway a much more!

Our resident Belgium Vertical Boiler Tank 0-4-0 Cockerill Yvonne will also be in steam on Sunday and will be providing brake van rides from the Dock platform located next to platform 1. There will be brake van rides approximately every 15 minutes from 10.30 onwards with parallel runs and crossovers. There is no extra charge for the brake van rides but footplate rides on Yvonne requires just a small donation of you choice to help the running of this unique and quirky loco. If you fancy going that extra mile there will be footplate rides available on our bigger engine 0-6-0ST Kitson Austin with a fee of just £5.00 for one return trip to Worth halt and back.
