The Lavender Line
A month ago the railways privately owned 0-4-0VBT Cockerill Yvonne failed during a steaming due to a leaking boiler tube, she sat out for the days steaming and her dedicated owner Colin set to work straight away taking the boiler apart to assess the damage, even when it was still hot!
She has since been assessed by the boiler inspector and Colin has finally managed to remove the faulty tube which was causing water to leak into the firebox. After a positive assessment by the boiler inspector the outcome has been found to be a manufacture error in which the tube had pitted and caused the metal to fatigue quicker. Colin has now replaced the faulty tube with a fresh one and she has been steamed successfully ready for another assessment by the boiler inspector. If he finds it stable enough and healthy he will pass Yvonne fit to run until her 10 year boiler ticket expires on 31st December 2014. Until then she is expected to run quite frequently with duties also on behalf of Austin 1 to give Austin some well earn breaks. A huge thank you to Colin and his family for doing such a grand job on returning Yvonne swiftly to service.
Yvonne will be in steam on the Bank holiday Monday 25th August and Sunday 31st August. She will also be in steam for the railways Gala weekend on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October where she will be sharing intensive timetables with both Austin 1 and the Thumper.
Keep an eye out on our Lavender Line Loco department facebook page for more details on Yvonne’s return and of course what’s running and when, still plenty to look forward to before the end of the year.
