The Lavender Line
We are very excited to announce the railways latest member to the steam fleet of which will be replacing former steam engine 'Austin 1' as our primary steam loco.
Meet 'Empress', this beautiful looking 0-6-0ST Bagnall built 1954 was originally acquired by the NCB (National coal board) for use at the Measham colliery. She also spent a number of years at Cadly Hill before finding herself in preservation in 1987. After spending a number of years in operation and two major overhauls at the Mangapps Railway, Essex, 'Empress' is now on loan to the Lavender Line as our primary steam engine.
'Empress' will be put to work almost straight away with Clive Groom's footplate courses and our own steam days which should be commencing at the end of April. There will be more information and photos of 'Empress' including her running dates over the coming months in the coming days.
A huge thank you to the Mangapps railway for the hire agreement and a big thank you to Barry Monk for seeking a replacement steam engine after the loss of 'Austin 1'
Keep an eye out on the Facebook page and website for 'Empress's' running dates and take advantage of seeing this beautiful saddle tank in steam
