The Lavender Line
On Friday 12th June the Lavender Line’s resident DEMU Thumper unit 1133 arrived safely at the nearby Spa Valley railway in Tunbridge Wells in readiness for their 30th anniversary of the closure of the line weekend which is taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July. 1133 will be spending the next few months at her holiday destination as she helps recreate the final days of the Tunbridge Wells West to Eridge line. She has already made history by becoming the first Class 205 unit to visit the line since the closure 30 years ago and will also be working alongside sister Class 207 1317 which is based at the Spa Valley railway.
The Lavender Line is extremely pleased to be supporting the Spa Valley railway with their anniversary weekend and helping to ensure that for the first time in preservation, two Thumpers can be seen working side by side. The Lavender line has always had a close relationship with the Spa Valley railway, with a number of former loco’s formally based at Isfield finding their way to Tunbridge Wells West over the years.
1133 will also be taking part in the Spa Valley’s mega Gala weekend which is taking place from Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August. This is proving to be a fantastic gala with up to 6 diesel’s and 2 units! 1133 will be paired with 1317 throughout the weekend as well as being hauled stock on certain trains.
Why not support the Spa Valley railway and come witness 2 Thumpers working side by side, the anniversary weekend promises double Thumpers and standard train services whilst the Gala weekend provides a number of different types of diesel’s ranging from a class 10 to a class 37. There will also be real ale on offer, late evening trains and lots of thrash!
