The Lavender Line
We are now very close to welcoming you all to the Lavender Line’s 4th Annual Gala weekend, this years event will be taking place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October. We will be celebrating all things transport including trains, road loco’s ,buses, cars and much more!
This is one of the final times this year you will be able to witness a spectacular gathering of all things vintage as we combine an intensive set of timetables alongside a selection of visiting traction engines, steam rollers, buses, classic cars and motorcycles. This year will see some new and exciting features including, Driver for Driver on the railways new Class 09 Diesel, Beer tent serving a great selection of real ales and beverages, traction engines trailer rides courtesy of Tinkers Park plus a saw bench demonstration. Timetables for Gala weekend:
We will be running our most intensive timetable of the year throughout the Gala with 3 different trains running from 3 different platforms. Primary trains will be running out of platform’s 1 and 2 with steam on platform 2 on the South end and Andrew Barclay 805 running from platform 1 in the morning on the 10.30, 11.30, 12.30pm and 13.30 services on the North end. The Wickham Railbus will be hauling the 14.30, 15.30 and 16.30 services. From the Dock platform located next to platform 1, Ruston ‘Valiant’ will be carrying out brake van rides to as far as the overhead bridge past the engine shed from 10.30am till 16.30
Trains from platform 2- All services from platform 2 will be steam hauled by ‘Empress’

Brake van rides from Dock platform- From 10.30- 12.45
From 10.30am till 12.45pm there will be brake van rides from the Dock platform located next to platform 1 with resident Ruston ‘Valiant’. This will be on an on demand basis or parallel departures with the main services trains. The brake van rides are included in the entrance price and run as far as the overhead bridge past the engine shed. The brake van rides will continue in the afternoon but will be hauled by Class 09 09025 with Driver for Fiver experiences.
What to see and do on the day-
Beer tent in association with the Laughing Fish pub-
New for 2015 will see a classic British feature return to the railway, the beer tent! From midday on the Saturday to late Sunday afternoon, the Laughing Fish beer tent will be open offering you the chance to treat yourself to a few local ales including the well know Harvey’s best, brewed just 5 miles down the road! The beer tent will be located opposite the steam engines in the car park next to the Hawthorn Leslie steam engine.
Beer tasting with the local High Weald Brewery-
We are very pleased to welcome the High Weald brewery to the 2015 Gala weekend where the head brewer will offer you the chance to try and to buy some of the delicious local beers he has skilfully made. The beer tasting will be taking place by the Buffet on platform 1 for both days. (Saturday only)
Traction engine trailer rides-
We are delighted to welcome back the Tinkers Park steam engine ‘Southern Queen’ to this years Gala which includes their passenger trailer. Traction engine trailer rides will be taking place in the neighbouring field behind the Laughing Fish pub from 11.00-13.00 both days on an on demand basis.
Great display of vintage vehicles including, traction engines, steam roller, classic cars, classic lorries, buses and motorcycles-
We have a fantastic selection of vintage vehicles set to take over the railway throughout the Gala weekend from steam rollers to classic cars and even a steam bus! This is one of the last events of the year you can witness these vintage vehicles gathering before the winter season sets in. There will also be a road run to the local pub ‘ The halfway house’ in Rose Hill where some of the steam engines head to for a quick drink, this will be taking place at approximately 15.00 from Isfield station, always a welcome sight to see on the road!
Full site access including unlimited train rides from 3 different platforms-
The bargain ticket price for this years Gala not only gives you the opportunity to get up close and personal with some very beautiful vintage vehicles, it also gives you full site access to the railway including any walks around Worth woods which is located just outside Worth halt. The entrance ticket also allows you unlimited train rides from platforms 1 and 2 including the Dock platform for brake van rides, of which are also included in the price!
Riley’s miniature railway on platform 2-
This cracking little miniature railway offers the younger members of the family to enjoy a few rides behind the privately run 5 inch gauge railway known as Riley’s railway. All money raised goes to a great charity. They will be running an intensive timetable with both steam and electric loco’s on offer for you to enjoy.
Where to eat on the day-
Cinder Buffet located on platform 1-
The railway’s Cinders Buffet is located on platform 1 and will be open all weekend from 8.30am till 4.30pm. There will be Full English breakfast’s available from 8.30am with light snacks and lunches available from 12.00pm onwards. Ice creams, soft drinks and snacks are also available throughout the weekend.
BBQ/ Hog roast-
There will also be a BBQ/ Hog roast available in the neighbouring field throughout the weekend. This could be one of the final times of 2015 for a BBQ so take advantage of the (hopeful) fine weather we have coming and enjoy one of the great British traditions!
Laughing Fish pub-
The Laughing Fish pub located next door to the Lavender Line will also be open all weekend. They have a great selection of real ales on offer and give you the chance to enjoy a more pub style meal in the heart of the Sussex countryside.
For the second year running we are offering our Gala tickets at rock bottom prices with value for money in mind. This year’s prices have not changed from 2014! So that’s just £1.00 extra from our standard prices for, 3 different trains, full site access, brake van rides plus so much more.

If you would like to enjoy a cab rides on either our steam or diesel locos just ask the driver on the day, one full round trip from Isfield to Worth halt will be £5.00 for steam and a donation of your choice on our diesels from the dock platform. For steam footplate rides you must be aged 14 or over and be wearing suitable clothing.
Where to park over the Gala weekend:
This year the public car park will be located in the field which neighbours the Lavender Line just behind the Laughing Fish pub. Access to the field and parking is on the left hand side of the pub as you approach it. The field will be split into two with the public parking in the first half of the field and the classic car display in the other. The ticket booth and entrance will be located by the public car park on the road that leads through the field.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our October Gala weekend at the Lavender Line. This will be one of the final times of 2015 to enjoy such selections of both railway locomotives and vintage vehicles together before the winter. Our advice is to get the railway early and enjoy the full day. With unlimited train rides available all day and trains running every 30 minutes you can enjoy a great day and explore what the Sussex weald has to offer.
