The Wednesday gang
If you have ever fancied working at a steam railway but you don’t have any free time at the weekends, the Wednesday gang could be your answer. Every Wednesday an ever growing gang of volunteers give up a spare few hours of their time to carry out odd jobs around the railway of which is continuingly improving the site for both members and the public.
There are no trains running on Wednesdays (unless there’s half term or summer holiday specials) and therefore otherwise difficult jobs such as track work and carriage maintenance can be carried out safely.
Jobs such as gardening, track maintenance, loco maintenance, carriage maintenance, cleaning, painting, shunting, wagon maintenance are all undertaken by volunteers and if you have any spare time on a Wednesday please contact us for more information and find out the therapeutic side to a preserved railway and why our working members keep coming back.
If you would like to know more or join the ‘Wednesday gang’ just come along on any Wednesday and one of our members would be more than happy to show you around. If it’s for one hour or the whole day we appreciate any help towards the maintenance and upkeep of the railway. You must be a Lavender Line member to volunteer; this is due to insurance purposes. If you are not a member please download one of our membership forms or collect a form when visiting the railway.
Simply contact: Steve or Barry on our ‘Contact form’ to find out more.
