The Lavender Line
We are pleased to announce our steam dates for the 2012 season. We will be running our resident steam engine 0-6-0ST Kitson ‘Austin 1’ for all steam days with the opportunity to see her running with both carriages and goods trains.
Running a steam engine is a very expensive task and due to rising costs we will be running steam twice a month from March until October including bank holiday Mondays. Steam engines need constant maintenance and ‘Austin 1’ is no exception, especially at 80 years old!
We will be open every Sunday throughout the year but days that aren’t steam hauled will be hauled by one of our resident diesels, we will also be open on certain Saturdays throughout 2012 as Clive Groome’s famous footplate courses operate on these days. Although there is no passenger service on these days the site is open for free access including the play area, signal box, shop, model railway, museum and the Buffet.
Every effort is made to ensure that steam is the motive power on steam days but due to complications that may occur with the steam engine or crews we will run a diesel service to substitute the steam service.2012 is turning into yet another exciting year at the Lavender line with a whole new line up of special events and steam days.
