The Lavender Line
Sunday 25th March will see the railways first goods train day of the 2012 season, with a bigger goods train than previous years this is turning out to be a very exciting day. On Monday the goods set was assembled throughout the day with both resident diesels planet and Valiant in use for all the shunting movements.
‘Austin 1’ our resident steam engine will be taking charge of the ‘local goods train’ which will include our very own toad brake van where you will be able to enjoy a unique viewing point of the Sussex countryside. The first train will depart platform 2 at 10.30 with trains departing on the hour and half hour until 4.30. There will also be the opportunity to view the latest addition to the railway, ‘Worth halt’. This brand new halt is currently in the process of being completed but the platform itself has already been built, although the halt is no yet open to the public it is possible to see how the station is progressing and what there is to look forward to in the summer months which will include a whole new picnic area and guided footpaths which connect to the Wealden marked public footpaths.
Why not make a day of it this coming Sunday, breakfasts start from 8.30 onwards in our Cinders buffet and train are running throughout the day from 10.30. The goods train will give you the perfect insight into how the railways dominated the transport system, from carrying passengers on high speed express trains to the humble local goods train of which we will be demonstrating on Sunday 25th March.
See our special events calendar for other goods train dates throughout the year and for our other gala events such as the diesel gala over the weekend of 7th and 8th July.
