The Lavender Line
Good Friday diesel service:
We will be running a diesel service on Good Friday with trains running from 11.00 until 4.30, trains will depart platform 2 on the hour and half hour throughout the day giving you the chance to enjoy a quieter day at the railway onboard our resident toad brake van. The train will be hauled by our very own 1960’s diesel shunter ‘Valiant’. This incredibly powerful 0-6-0 shunter was brought by the lavender line preservation society in 2008 and she has really made herself at home amongst our steam engine ‘Austin 1’ and resident shunter 0-4-0 Planet. All of our train tickets include unlimited train rides all day!
Steam service on Easter Sunday and Monday for Easter bunny specials:
Steam will be in charge of all services on Easter Sunday and Monday with our resident steam engine ‘Austin 1’. She will be coupled with our newly refurbished 108 coach which spend much of its working life running out of London Paddington on shuttle services until the late 1980’s. The unique 108 coach offers you an almost 360 view of where you are travelling including where the driver would have sat in the days of operation which is where the guard sits now. Why not take a trip down to the Lavender line for one of these days, our Easter bunny hunt specials are great fun with a prize for finding all the hidden bunnies!
The first train departs platform 2 at 11.00 with trains running on the hour and half hour, last train leaves Isfield station at 4.30. Breakfasts will be served from 8.30 onwards so why not take advantage of our already low prices and enjoy one of our famous full English breakfasts.
Operating days throughout April:
As well as our Easter specials we will also be running our normal operating dates throughout the month, Sunday 15th and Sunday 22nd April will be a diesel service with number 422 Valiant looking after the train services for those dates. There is also a steam service operating on Sunday 29th April. We will not be open on Saturday 7th April between Good Friday and Easter but as mentioned above an diesel service will operate on Good Friday and an all steam service will operate on Easter Sunday and Monday. All throughout April we will also be giving away the opportunity to ride with the driver with our footplate tasters, why not treat someone to a footplate ride on Austin 1, for the price of just £5.00 you cant go wrong, a full round trip onboard the footplate with the driver and fireman will give you the perfect atmosphere of what it would have been like during the days of steam.
‘Worth halt’ is due to open in the summer and is well on its way to becoming a fantastic new addition to the Lavender line, the new fence which stretches from the station itself to the public foot crossing is already under construction which only leaves the painting of the halt and the layout of the new picnic areas to be finished. Although you cannot yet alight at the halt you can check out its progress, just ask any member of our friendly staff about the project of building Worth halt and they would be more than happy to tell you and show you how its coming along.
