A Very Successful Diesel Gala

We are extremely excited to announce that the Lavender lines new station at Little Horsted is now officially open for the public. Worth halt was opened for public use on the morning of Saturday 7th July just before the diesel gala began and none other than our very own thumper unit 1133 took charge of the first official train to and from Worth halt. The station was packed with local hikers and a ribbon was cut to mark the grand opening of Worth halt, accompanied by many of the lavender lines members and all those who took part in the building of the halt it really was a very special morning. Our chairman John who has been at the spear head of the project said “this is what the railway needs, a destination where people can alight and enjoy what the railway has to offer”.

The project itself has only taken 7 months to completion with the majority of the work completed by March. There have already been many fantastic complements towards the new halt with more still to come, although the station is now officially open there is still cosmetic work to be done, there are plans to bring picnic benches down to the end of the line to allow vistors to enjoy the beautiful open countryside that surrounds the parish of Little horsted.

Why not take a trip up the Lavender line at some point a check out the new halt for yourself, you can alight at Worth halt and take a leisurely stroll through the woodlands or simply enjoy a bit of peace and quite by the riverside before heading back to Isfield. As the halt is now open there will be a formal timetable in use on every service train which will allow you to catch the train to or from Worth halt.

We are open every Sunday throughout the year with steam running twice a month, this will be the first and last Sundays of the month and include bank holidays. Our next steam date will be Sunday 29th July with our resident steam engine Austin 1 taking charge of the service train. As always with out steam days there will be the opportunity to try out our footplate tasters where for just £5.00 you can ride with the driver for one whole trip!

We will also be hosting our special mid week holidays train where all tickets are just £5.00 which includes unlimited trains throughout the day to Worth halt and back. All midweek trains are diesel hauled and will be running on the hour and half hour from 11.00 till 4.00 on platform 2.
