The Lavender Line
Two of our regular working members Dan and Roger have undertaken the lengthy task of cosmetic restoration of our resident Toad brake van which has seen a fair share of use since its last restoration period in 2003. This task involves stripping the rotten wood, replacing the missing running boards, a full service of the linkage and vacuum cylinders, replacing the waterproof felt on the roof and of course a new coat of paint.
One of our regular Wednesday gang members Roger has already replaced the missing running boards with Dan removing the rotten wood and stripping the paint. All this work is being undertaken whilst the brake van is still in traffic which makes this task even more difficult. It is hoped the cosmetic restoration of the brake van will be complete by the end of summer where there are future plans to run demonstration freight trains with the Toad acting as the brake van.
The Toad will be out shopped in a GWR grey livery similar to how it would have looked when it was built. If you would like to get involved in the restoration of the Toad brake van or any of our other projects please contact us on our ‘contact form’.
