The Lavender Line
We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting two steam and thumper days over the two bank holiday Mondays during May. On bank holiday Monday 6th and Monday 27th of May there will be an intensive two train service comprising of both steam and diesel as our resident Thumper unit 1133 will be sharing the day’s duties with our resident steam engine Austin 1. This will be the first opportunities to see our unique thumper unit as she ventures out the shed after spending a number of month’s receiving the final coats of paint ready for the new season. 1133 is one of the many preserved thumper unit DEMU’s that have a popular following amongst train enthusiasts due to their unique sound and the fact that many can relate to them due to their very late withdrawal which was as recent as 2004. 1133 will also be starring in our annual diesel gala on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July where she will sharing a very intensive timetable with our other resident diesels.
Our steam engine Austin 1 will be providing the other half of the half hourly service as she pairs with the 108 coach. Why not take advantage of these two bank holiday Mondays by enjoying a variety of traction as both steam and diesel work together in providing train rides through the Sussex countryside.
The day is likely to be set out as Austin 1 on platform 2 with the Thumper on platform 1, there will also be the opportunity to take advantage of our footplate tasters as you can enjoy the chance of riding on the footplate with the driver and fireman for a donation of just £5.00, just ask the driver or fireman on the day for more information.
