The Lavender Line
We regret to announce that there will be no steam service this coming Sunday 2nd June. On Bank Monday 27th May our resident steam engine Austin 1 suffered a minor mechanical failure on the last trip back to Isfield when a section of the inside motion had failed. We have taken the loco out of traffic until this problem has been rectified and to ensure it will not happen again.
Austin 1 is 81 years old this year and like any mechanical machinery she always carry’s the risk of wear and tear to all parts of the engine especially the inside motion which have the most revolutions per minute. The problem is not thought to be major and it is hoped she will be back is steam within the next few weeks after a steam test.
Once it has been confirmed Austin is back in traffic we will let everyone one on the latest news feed of the website and when her next steam date will be. We are very sorry of any inconvenience this has caused to your up and coming visits to the railway. There will be a replacement diesel service on Sunday 2nd June which will be providing a standard service with trains on the hour and half hour from 11.00 till 4.30.
