The Lavender Line
We are less than a week away now until our 3rd annual steam and transport gala which is set to be an action packed steam filled weekend.
On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October the Lavender lines steam and transport gala will take place with a whole host of activities throughout the weekend to keep both the keen enthusiasts and families entertained. There will be an intensive timetable on both days under a two train service with three steam engines in steam.
We are also very pleased to say our visiting steam engines Port of Par twins Alfred and Judy has safely arrived at the railway with plenty of time to spare. They have been tucked away in the shed alongside Austin 1 in preparation for the gala weekend. This is the first time since May 2006 the Lavender line will host three working steam engines on a gala weekend, the last time this happened Austin 1 shared duties with visiting terrier Martello and Sentinel.
Highlights of the gala weekend:
• Three steam engines in steam, resident Austin 1 alongside visiting Bagnall twins Alfred and Judy
• Intensive two train timetable including goods train and passenger train
• Miniature railway on platform 2 with intensive services
• Visiting vintage vehicles from traction engines to classic cars
• Top and tailed trains with Alfred and Judy
• Double headed trains throughout the weekend
• Plus lots lots more!
Visiting Port of Par twins Alfred and Judy will be taking centre stage of the gala weekend including double headed and freight trains to add a twist to the gala. There is also going to be a large gathering of vintage vehicles in the adjoining field which will ensure entertainment for all the family. Classic cars, Lorries, traction engines, buses, and wartime vehicles are just some of the vintage vehicles set to join us at the gala to celebrate all things steam and transport.
How much does it cost?
Our gala prices this year are great value for money, all tickets include full admission to the railway, acess to all visiting vehicles, walks around Worth halt and of course unlimited train rides!
Family ticket- 2 adults and 3 children £35
No concessions or HRA cards
This is set to be a fantastic action packed weekend with double header trains, passenger trains, goods trains and of course a huge selection of visiting vintage vehicles from all corners of the county. If you wish to take some unique photographs over the weekend why not alight at Worth halt and walk the quarter of mile back to the public crossing, you can take some great shots at track level all along the fencing, especially when Alfred and Judy work hard back up the hill towards Isfield so expect plenty of noise!
A huge thank you goes out the Bodmin and Wenford railway for the hire of these two unique locos, please visit the Bodmin and Wenford railway website to find out more where Alfred and Judy has come from in the heart of Cornwall!
There will be two car parks at the steam and transport gala this year, the first will be the railways normal car park located within the railway site itself and there will also be an overflow car park located in the field next to it just behind the Laughing fish pub. There will be signs directing you to the car park on arrival. This field is also subject to change if the weather over the weekend is wet. If this is the case please see notices on arrival.
Where will everything be displayed?
This year we are very fortunate to have access to the field just opposite the railway which is where all visiting vintage vehicles will be displayed, this will allow you to park in the two car parks by the railway then walk across through the station into the display field. Steam trains will be departing from both Platform 1 and 2
Timetables for both days:
There will be an intensive two train timetable which will be departing from both platforms 1 and platform 2. First half of the day from 10.30 till 14.00 Austin 1 will be taking charge of the passenger set whilst the Port of Par twins Alfred and Judy will haul the goods train which will be able to carry passengers on board our toad brake van. The second half of the day from approximately 14.30 till 17.30 Austin 1 haul the goods train with Alfred and Judy hauling the passenger set. All three engines will be on the south end of the trains to ensure great photography. Trains will depart approximately every 25 to 30 mins throughout the day but this may change as the services become more intensive. There will be both double headers and single headed trains throughout the day. First train departs Isfield at 10.30 with the last train at 17.30.
We look forward to seeing you all there at the steam and transport gala, this is one event you don’t want to miss!
